You guessed it. It’s now Latam, the world’s second largest airline. Lan, based in Santiago, Chile, recently acquired Brazilian Tam airlines, and the deal cleared Brazilian regulators at the end of december. Now it looks like Lan has access to Tam’s fast growing business. Tam’s business in Brazil accounts for almost half of routes in Brazil, Latin-America’s largest economy,as well as 115 destinations in 23 countries. Lan will now decide whether or not to stay with one world or opt to go with Star Alliance by mid summer.
This recent alliance should bring some more competitive pricing and should also promote tourism in Latin America. It will be interesting t see what marketing efforts Latam plans to make. Viva Latam!
